This year's ang pow design is an original creation by a Malaysian artist named Emila Yusof. It features eight plump koi fish swimming calmly in a tranquil blue pond. There are eight fish as the number eight is regarded as the luckiest number in Chinese culture. In turn, each fish bears a traditional Chinese symbol on its body. The symbols, which are both beautiful and auspicious, include peonies, bamboo, fish scales, cherry blossoms, oranges and 'lu' the Chinese character for prosperity. Together, they represent wealth, happiness, abundance, luck and longevity, which is what everyone wishes for and looks forward to in the upcoming New Year.
